Poker is a hassle-free game. It has won hearts all over the world for this very reason. Most players can pick it up with some practice games. However, mastering poker is a different ball game. Besides, poker does not solely depend on skill but strategy as well. Hence, you need to hone your basic poker strategy and improve them with the lessons you learn from everyday games.

Poker tips fall under two categories – tips for a specific variant and suggestions for improving the overall gameplay. Since every player prefers different variation of the game, discussing a particular game of poker may not be everyone's alley and does not make sense to get into the nitty-gritty of the game.

Where many believe only the stronger hands win in poker, even the weak hands can win on the table. How does it happen? This is because on how specific players on the table react when they see some players go aggressive by bluffing in poker. Here we will understand the importance of making bluffs.

What is a bluff in poker?

When you decide to bluff in poker, it is a risky strategy, which turns out to be satisfying at the end. Newbie poker players believe bluffing should often happen in poker. However, you need to be selective while bluffing. Practice bluffing when the stakes are low for enhancing the skills, especially while convincing the opponents that you hold good hands.

Select the timing carefully, then slowly raise the bet over the hand for pressurising the other players. You will not be fruitful always, but by understanding the circumstances well and the time of bluffing, you can increase the odds of deceiving for winning the hand.

When to bluff?

Following are the scenarios to consider bluffing –

  • Limit bluffing: Beginners feel bluffing in poker is a bigger part of poker than it is. However, pretending is only a strategy which you must rarely use. You should be sure to get the opponents to fold before you bluff. Do not bluff because you have not bluffed for a while.

  • Low stakes: Although it is tempting to bluff for gaining a lot, it is an effective strategy to bluff when the stakes are low. Not only is the opponent more likely to fold, but you also will not lose as much if you bluff. Smaller bets are more convincing to other players.

  • Bluff strong players: Newbies or players who do not have a proper understanding of poker are likely to continue bluffing on their hand, no matter what. They fail to consider the opponents' hands. A weak player might not fold and not notice your strategy. A good player, on the other hand, assesses the strength of your hand and determine if you are bluffing.

  • Bluff pre-flop: If you are in the last position and the players to your right have been tight, begin to bluff. Add pressure on the other players by adding raise. Some try to fold before the flop. Starting to bluff pre-flop puts you in an advantageous position as you can witness the immediate reaction of the opponents and leave them time to reassess the strategy before the end of the hand.
